In my opinion, December 2019 is aided significantly by the transit of Jupiter into Capricorn. This month will focus a lot on the realities of our lives, which can be like a cold shower I know, but Jupiter brings us the possibilities for improving our reality and making changes that we can actually be accomplished. It is for this reason that my focus is on the benefits of Jupiter in Capricorn rather than the negatives.
Yes, the time of endless possibilities and hope is coming to an end, but as Jupiter leaves its ruler Sagittarius, and enters into its fall position in Capricorn, I can only think that we all need a dose of reality and the promise of Jupiter to give us the way forward.
12/3/19 Jupiter enters Capricorn [Fall]
Jupiter will enter Capricorn on December 3rd, 2019, and it will remain in the sign of its fall until December 18th, 2020. The exit from Sagittarius can be felt like a slowing down or a contraction of sorts. Some report that it feels like their “luck has run out”, and that there is only hard work ahead. In many ways, this is all true, but there are several good indicators for Jupiter in Capricorn.
Jupiter is the planet of expansion and some say “luck”. I like to think of Jupiter as a visionary planet. One that gives us visions of all the possibilities, paths, etc., we can take to our goals. All things seem possible with Jupiter, and the future seems limitless. It is the nature of Jupiter to allow us to have these visions of our own future, and sometimes even our own destiny.
While there is a somewhat ‘cold shower’ coming when Jupiter enters Capricorn, it is that kind of awakening that demands that we make some choices. We must all wake-up from our daydreams and begin to work for what we want. We must now take some responsibility for our hopes and desires, and work toward their achievement. We cannot stay in the world of visions any longer. We need to pick a road, and travel it. Our future starts now, and we must all work to achieve our own chosen goals. It’s just the way it is.
So, say good-bye to the endless possibilities of Jupiter in Sagittarius and welcome the more focused and serious Jupiter in Capricorn. It’s now time to put your multiple visions aside, and pick one [or two] to focus on, and make real. Time to stop wishing and go to work!!
12/10/19 Mercury enters Sagittarius [Detriment]: In Sagittarius, Mercury produces a mind that is independent, versatile, and roving, both in those born with the placement and in many people during this transit. People ponder deeper thoughts and those unorthodox thoughts that “pop” into your mind when you least expect them. This is a period of expansion in thinking and communicating. We see more. We want to share these visions more, and we need people to listen more than ever. The method of expression is impulsive, very direct, and sometimes argumentative. Yet it is social and very communicative with anyone who will listen.
There may be a lack of tolerance for the views of others during this time. In Sagittarius, Mercury tends to think it “knows it all” and has no trouble telling that to anyone that will listen. The problem is that while the need to be heard is real during this transit, oftentimes the ability to listen to others is absent. The visions of the future can be so strong, that we may fail to hear the voices of those we want so desperately to listen to us.
This
is not the time to debate differences
of opinion. People can be a bit of an evangelist for their own opinions during
this transit, and they love to get up on a “soapbox” and tell us all about it. During
this transit, it is best to wait to confront and debate others. Why? Because no
one will listen. That is the major negative of Mercury in Sagittarius, and why
it is detriment. People with the placement can be quick to speak and slow to
listen. During the transit, this can also be the case.
The natural tendency is to say exactly what is on the mind with little concern
for fact or reality. People can become impatient, restless, and feeling the
need for change, and they don’t always wait long enough to form a correct
judgment. There is a natural instinct to improve on the truth [if you know what
I mean].
Senses are keen during this transit, but it can be hard to concentrate on any
single subject for long periods. Details can be overlooked during this time,
because the focus is on the broader view.
Everything seems to be interesting. People are particularly attracted to
subjects that have significance beyond the everyday, including philosophy,
psychology, foreign cultures, or religion.
12/21/19 Venus enters Aquarius: In Aquarius, Venus becomes a little less self-involved. There is tendency to detach from personal desires and become more aware of universal matters. The Brotherhood of Man sort of thing becomes evident during this transit. Sometimes, during the year, we can become so self-involved with our own lives, that we fail to remember we are part of a bigger community. We are all part of the community of humankind.
This year, this particular transit makes us more acutely aware of the purpose of all the holidays we celebrate in December. It is time to put aside differences, and focus of the things we all have in common. Such a focus will help us all to remember we are not the center of the universe, and that we are part of a larger brotherhood. We’re in this together.
12/23/19 Sun enters Capricorn [First Day of Winter] The Capricorn native is generally a serious character possessing a wry sense of humor. Independent and steady as a rock, Capricorn reflects earthy qualities that range from clever to vacuous. Mostly cautious, confident, strong willed, reasonable, and hardworking, Capricorns are a rock upon which to build.
They are often aloof,
shrewd, practical, responsible, and persevering. They are capable of great
endurance; a “whatever it takes, for as long as
it takes” kind of persistence.
Reliable in any profession they undertake, but lacking in originality, they
usually excel in following up on what someone else has started. For this reason,
they make excellent managers and administrators.
Within prescribed areas, Capricorn is a
resourceful, practical manager. These folks set high standards for themselves
and others. They are self-critical, and work well in a disciplined environment,
demanding equal measure from their subordinates. A careful, ambitious planner,
Capricorn moves forward with quiet, deliberate persistence. They can be frugal,
possessing the ability to achieve results with minimum effort and expense.
Highly organized, they excel in managing several projects simultaneously.
Capricorn will often vie for a position of
authority. Once attaining control, they are demanding and exacting in
leadership. Although firm, they are usually fair to people they deal with. They
value tradition, the tried and true, more than innovation. “We always done it this way,” was no
doubt first said by a Capricorn. Their naturally pessimistic nature explains
their wry sense of humor, which some think is no humor at all. They can spread
gloom and tension in a minute and are quite capable of depressing everyone else
around them.
Capricorns tend to be profound thinkers. To them
life is a serious business, and the need to be in control of it is paramount.
They are seekers after knowledge and wisdom. Rational, logical and clearheaded,
they have excellent concentration, and delight in all forms of debate.
In personal relationships, they tend to be uncomfortable
and sometimes anxious. Often they are wary and suspicious of others. They often
have few close friends, but will maintain these bonds their entire life. They
are loyal to intimates, but indifferent and sometimes callous to those outside
their circle. Never impetuous, they consider business and personal
relationships carefully before becoming involved. These are family people, and
family usually comes first, except where business is their primary concern.
Capricorn season brings us all into Winter, where we are suddenly pulled up short and reminded of what we still need to do before the year ends. This sudden realization can cause us all to become anxious over the holidays, and unable to enjoy it the “way we used to”.
12/30/19 Mercury enters Capricorn: While in Sagittarius, everything seems possible, but once in Capricorn, suddenly only a few things seem likely and only with lots of planning and hard work. Mercury’s transit from idealistic Sagittarius into practical and pragmatic Capricorn can be a letdown for many. It’s not really a letdown, it’s just a time when we face reality and get serious about what we can really do and accomplish. It’s quite literally a “wake up call”.
In Capricorn, our focus becomes sharper, and we think in practical terms. We become more concerned with material issues and make mental notes in connection with our professional goals and personal ambitions.
We also become more aware of our reputation and how our family, friends, co-workers, superiors, and yes, even the public, views us. During this time, we organize our thoughts, set goals, outline ideas and make concrete plans for the future. The whole concept of making New Year’s resolutions is an outgrowth of Mercury in Capricorn [which usually occurs around the New Year or close enough to it.]
This transit along with the transit of Jupiter into Capricorn will be the foundation for accomplishments in 2020. This year, when making New Year’s resolutions, make them with a focus on the future AND the realities of your life. Do not make unreasonable resolutions this year. Instead, focus on the practical realities of what you want, and your ability to achieve those goals and desires. This is the year when astrology helps these resolutions along.
Be serious this time. Make it all count.
